TORAH BITS - DEUTERONOMY

#44 Devarim Deuteronomy 1:1-3:22

We are to change how we live and approach life. We are to put on new attitudes and desires that result in doing what is right and being holy. Allow the Holy Spirit to help you; listen to what the scriptures command us to do and what the Holy Spirit tells you. Yeshua said, "He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels;" Revelation 3:5 NKJV.

#45 VaEtchanan Deuteronomy 3:23-7:11

Over and over in this portion God reminds us to keep His commandments; it if for our own good. Yeshua came to help us and give us the Holy Spirit as our helper. We can have a better life through the Messiah, and the help of the Holy Spirit. God truly cares about us; people don't always have our best interests at heart. We need to apply ourselves well to our spiritual lives and not just to the other things of life. God is the true God and not something made up. We can have a better life through God and a wonderful eternal life. Do was is right and good; don't let it slip away. God's ways bring joy, peace, and blessing.

#46 Eikev Deuteronomy 7:12-11:25

Israel was to do what is right and circumcise their hearts and we are also to do that. God is merciful and forgiving and will be with us if we keep His commandments. God will never forget His people. Make an effort to be more aware of God's presence during the day. God is real and we need to talk to God. We should live as though God is real and experience God and the power of God.

The Israelites and Jews went through a lot to give us the Bible. Value the Jewish Bible and don't get distracted by false teachings that take the Bible out of its ancient original context. Watch out for the false theological spins put on the Bible. There are Bible teachers out there that have lost the original understanding of the scriptures. Perhaps they want worldly people to accept them instead of wanting to be accepted by God. Watch out that our own personal drive for acceptance keeps us from following God. Don't pursue worldly values, but be faithful to God's values. It is important.

#47 Re'eh Deuteronomy 11:26-16:17

Some people say there is no such thing as spiritual blessings or curses. We saw how God worked powerfully for Israel to free them from Egypt. It is a prime example of Egypt being cursed for standing up against God. When people don’t do things God’s way, they bring curses on themselves. It is their choice. We are to follow God and no false God or false religion. The Holy Spirit is good and will help us in all of life, sometimes in very extraordinary ways. Allow God to inspire you and lead you. God is light and wants to bring blessings and goodness into the world.

Make sure you personally take part in those blessings and then help others to be blessed. Take part in what God is doing. We are to be lights to this world by how we live and also, we are lights because we can be connected to God through the Holy Spirit. God freed Israel from Egypt so they could serve God, and God wants to set people free from sin through the Messiah Yeshua so they can serve him. Serve God and stay pure and clean spiritually. See, "Re'eh," what God has set before us. We trust in a good and great YeHoVah our God.

#48 Shoftim Deuteronomy 16:18 to 21:9

Some people think that they are saved without any actions of their own, but the Bible does not say that and saved does not mean that. It means that we can escape sin to serve God. Praise God, the Messiah has given us the chance to escape. He is over all and though Him we can live a fruitful life that ends in eternal life for those who are faithful. Hebrews 10:36 says, "For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise."

#49 Ki Teitzei Deuteronomy 21:10-25:19

Stay in the fight with God’s wonderful light. His help goes beyond what the world has to offer and is amazing. He gives us life through His commandments. He gives us hope and power through the Holy Spirit. We have something to look forward to, so stay faithful and stay in the fight. 1 John 5:4 NKJV says, "This is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith. Romans 8:18 NKJV says, "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Finally, in Revelation 3:5 NKJV says, "He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels."

#50 Ki Tavo Deuteronomy 26:1-29:8

We have a lot to look forward to with God; joy, blessings, peace, fellowship, hope, and so much more. Things go better with God. That's essentially what Moshe tells Israel as this portion closes. Moshe closes this portion by telling them about their time in the desert and that they should obey God's commands so they will be in relationship with God and prosper. They were to stay in relationship (covenant). "Therefore keep the words of this covenant, and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do;" Deuteronomy 29:9 NKJV.

#51 Nitzavim Deuteronomy 29:9-30:20

Spiritual awareness is an important part of our messianic life. Through it we better keep away the darkness of the devil, and what is inappropriately worldly out of our lives. Through spiritual awareness we are more connected to God so we don't join the evil purposes of our adversary the devil. Test the messages given by man to make sure they lead us to God so we can stay in God's light. We want a true understanding of the Bible so we can be in relationship with God. Kefa (Peter) says we are to take our spiritual walks seriously so that we don't succumb to what the devil is trying to do. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” 1 Peter 5:8-9 (NKJV)

#52 Vayelech Deuteronomy 31:1-30

"The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance is of the Lord." Proverbs 21:31 NKJV. Horses were used to help win battles. God will help us to win our spiritual battles. The things we have, the strength we have, and all the influence we exert cannot match what God can do and will do. Then in the future, our destiny will be fulfilled; have joy in the Lord Yehováh and stay faithful. Overcoming something means we take action. We have the ultimate victory through Yeshua and our God. It is worth living for God.

#53 Ha'azinu Deuteronomy 32:1-52

God protected Israel in the desert and promised to continue to be with them in their new land as long as they were faithful. The song Moshe wrote would remind them of these things and that someday they would turn away from God. God is faithful though and took them back when they turned towards Him. Also, if we return to God, He will take us back too.

Yeshua quoted the Tanakh and tells us that our lives depend on seeking God with our whole hearts. The world looks after itself instead of seeking God. We need to focus on God and put God in His proper place in our lives. Being in constant anguish is not God's will; instead, trust in God. Follow God's commandments and allow the Holy Spirit to help us to do what is right. Follow God instead of making man-made ritual into commandments. Ritual can be enjoyable, but making up extra commandments leads us away from God and can burden us. Don't be deceived, but be strong and faithful. Yeshua said to be wise. Watch out for people and things that will detract us from our relationship with God.

#54 Vzot Haberakhah Deuteronomy 33:1-34:12

What is our attitude? Do we care about God and truly believe in Him or do we just make up excuses to break His commandments? I have found God's promises to be true; it is worth following God. God expects us to be faithful and brave. God wants to lift us up by the power of the Holy Spirit. Then someday, God will lift up those who live holy lives and keep His commandments through the power of the Holy Spirit to eternal life. "Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord;" Hebrews 14:12 NKJV. Yochanan said, "These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God;" 1 John 5:13 NKJV.

#53-54 Ha'azinu-Vezot Haberakhah Deuteronomy 32:1-34:12

This week is not a double portion, but we are finishing the book of Deuteronomy this week. The portion Ha'azinu is a prophetic song about the future of Israel that God wanted Moshe write for them. The gist of the song begins by praising God and then a brief history of man. God was our Father from the inception of His created work on earth. He chose Israel, protected them in the desert, and prospered them in the new land, but they turned away to idols and would arouse God’s anger so that He would turn away His face from them. In the end He would avenge their enemies and atone His people. Moshe tells Israel that they were to teach their children the Ha'azinu song so they would understand the urgency of its message. We should also understand the urgency of doing what is right. First of all, God gave us His commandments to bless us and help us.
