CONGREGATION TESHUVAH
#47 RE'EH DEUTERONOMY 11:26-16:17
Re'eh means, "behold" or "see."
In this portion, Moshe (Moses) begins by telling us that we have two choices. We can either keep God's commandments or not keep God's commandments. People often think we may have several options spiritually and there is more than one way to God and eternal life in God's future kingdom. By keeping God's commandments, we will be blessed and by not keeping God's commandments we will be cursed. Daniel 12:2-3 NKJV says, "Those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever." Those who keep God's commandments will be blessed with eternal life in God's future kingdom and shine like the stars forever. Those who do not keep God's commandments will have to endure eternal shame.
We do not have to wait to experience the blessings from keeping God's commandments. Psalm 34:8 NKJV says, "Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!" Notice how it says "see." That is from the same verb as "re'eh," namely the verb ra'ah. The psalmist said that we will see the goodness of God if we trust in Him and His commandments. I have experienced this supernatural work of God; it is not by chance. If you obey God's commandments, you will "see" too.
